Program Overview

Head Coach Jeff Amurao PTR USPTA emphasizes the importance of a sound, technical foundation, a tactical and strategic understanding of the game, optimal fitness, and a never-quit attitude that serves student-athletes both on the court and in life. Personal responsibility, hard work, and competing with integrity are core components of Coach Amurao’s coaching philosophy. His assistant coaches have extensive collegiate and international experience, and bring professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to Poly Prep tennis and its student-athletes.   

Boys’ Tennis Highlights

• The Poly Boys’ Varsity Team compiled a 8-4 overall season record in 2022 with wins over multiple Ivy Prep Conference rivals.
• Current seniors Tyler Jacobus, Vivek Laddha, and Zachary Kimmelman received All-Ivy Team recognition in 2022.
• Poly Prep received berths in both the singles and doubles ’22 NYSAIS Tournaments and was the No.1 overall seed in doubles.
• Vivek Laddha advanced to the final 8 of the 128 singles draw at the ’22 Mayor’s Cup.

Boys’ Tennis Coach

Hailing from Delaware, Amurao was a top-flight USTA junior, the No. 1 singles player at notable prep school Archmere Academy, and a DI player at Georgetown University. He is the former General Director at the McCarren Tennis Center and the current High Performance Director of CityView Racquet Club in Long Island City. Jeff joined Poly in 2020 and had an immediate impact in his first full season, returning a winning tradition to both the girls’ and boys’ teams. “I’m grateful to be a part of the Poly family and I look forward to continuing to coach our student-athletes toward ever higher levels of achievement.

Tennis Facilities

The Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis teams train and compete on campus on six Poly blue hard courts, equipped with lighting and bench seating.
